HORSHAM PAEDOPHILE RICHARD KOCH SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS FOR SYSTEMATIC ABUSE OF GIRL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Horsham, Richard Koch, a 41-year-old handyman residing on Canberra Place, was handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of a series of heinous crimes involving a vulnerable young girl. The sentencing took place at Lewes Crown Court on a recent Friday, where the court heard the full extent of Koch’s disturbing actions over an eight-year period.Richard Koch was found guilty of a total of 23 separate offences, which included serious crimes such as rape, sexual assault, physical assault, and incitement to engage in sexual activity. The court also learned that Koch had admitted to three counts of possessing indecent images of children; however, none of these images were related to the victim in this case. Despite the overwhelming evidence, Koch was acquitted of one particular sexual assault charge involving the girl.
The judge presiding over the case, Judge Paul Tain, sentenced Koch to a total of 24 years in prison. The terms of his incarceration specify that he will serve a minimum of 16 years before being eligible to apply for parole. The first 19 years of his sentence will be served behind bars, with the remaining five years on licence once he is released. Additionally, Koch will be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes.
To further restrict his access to minors, Koch was issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which imposes strict limitations on any contact or interaction with young girls. The court’s decision reflects the gravity of the abuse inflicted upon the victim, who was subjected to a prolonged and systematic campaign of sexual offences and physical violence from the age of 13.
The victim endured a series of traumatic experiences, including being hit with paddles, tied up, and even half-strangled at various addresses in Horsham. These acts of cruelty and exploitation spanned nearly a decade, highlighting the disturbing nature of Koch’s conduct.
During the sentencing, Judge Tain described the case as “the worst case of single sex abuse I have ever had to sit through,” emphasizing the profound impact of Koch’s actions on the victim and the community. The court’s decision aims to ensure that Koch remains detained for a significant period, preventing any further harm to vulnerable individuals in the future.
