A man has been sentenced to jail after CCTV footage showed him assaulting and strangling his former partner.

Richard Gill, aged 36, was seen attacking a woman who was sitting in an office chair, forcing her across the room while holding her neck.

He became angry during a dispute and was aware of the camera’s presence, attempting to remove it from the wall just moments before the attack in Ollerton on 5 November 2024.

The footage was distressing, clearly displaying the act of strangulation and capturing the sound of another assault.

Gill was taken into custody two days later and admitted to one count of intentional strangulation and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

He also acknowledged assaulting a different woman in October 2020 during a family argument.

At Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday 12 March, Gill, who lives on Chapel Road, Indian Queen’s Cornwall, was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

A restraining order was also issued to prevent further contact between Gill and his victim.
