RICHARD FRIZZELL'S SHOCKING CRIME IN NEWCASTLE: PENSIONER MOLESTS SCHOOLGIRL AND POSSESSES CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Newcastle community, Richard Frizzell, a pensioner residing on Normount Street, was convicted of heinous crimes involving a vulnerable schoolgirl.The incident, which took place in February 2021, revealed a pattern of predatory behavior and possession of a significant collection of indecent images of children.
According to court proceedings, Frizzell subjected the young girl to sexual abuse, actions that have left her profoundly traumatized.
The court heard that he groped her and showed her a graphic image of himself, attempting to coerce her into further sexual acts.
He also made inappropriate propositions, offering her £40 to see her breasts, which she refused.
Frizzell's predatory tactics included asking her to perform a sex act for him and promising cigarettes and money in exchange for her compliance.
Furthermore, he made disturbing comments suggesting that she was old enough to have sex and expressed a desire to engage in sexual activity with her.
The court was told that Frizzell explicitly told the girl she should try sex, indicating a clear pattern of grooming and exploitation.
Prosecutor Lee Fish detailed to Newcastle Crown Court that Frizzell claimed to possess naked pictures of girls on his laptop, which he said he obtained from the internet.
He admitted that some of these images depicted girls younger than the victim, in sexually suggestive poses, though not involved in sexual activity.
Frizzell's comments and actions prompted the girl to confide in her family.
Her mother confronted Frizzell, who responded by pleading for mercy and claiming he was suicidal.
Following this, authorities arrested Frizzell, seizing his electronic devices for investigation.
The evidence uncovered was deeply troubling, revealing that he had been actively seeking indecent images of children.
The police found a total of 1,855 images across various categories: 60 of the most serious type, category A; 93 of category B; and 1,702 of category C.
Additionally, there were 30 images of extreme pornography and 24 prohibited images of children, including 3D digital images.
The victim provided a heartfelt statement read aloud in court, describing the profound impact of the abuse.
She said, “Since this happened I’m not the person I was before this.
I really struggle to sleep now.
I’m so tired but I can’t fall asleep.
When I’m near a man I don’t know, I have a feeling something is going to happen.
What happened left me feeling insecure and very hurt.
Some days I can’t leave my home because I have so much anxiety.
He has ruined my past and my future.” Richard Frizzell pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of sexual assault, two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and possession of indecent, extreme, and prohibited images.
His sentencing saw him receive a prison term of three years.
The court also imposed an indefinite restraining order to prevent him from contacting the victim, a ten-year sexual harm prevention order, and a requirement to register as a sex offender.
Judge Robert Spragg condemned Frizzell’s actions, describing them as “systematic abuse” against a young girl.
He emphasized the severity of the crimes, calling them “appalling behavior.” The judge noted that Frizzell presented an inconsistent attitude during proceedings, expressing some remorse while denying the offences and blaming the victim.
Frizzell claimed that pop-up advertisements were responsible for the material found on his computer, yet he ultimately pleaded guilty.
The court was also informed that his children have disowned him, highlighting the personal and social repercussions of his actions.
