JEALOUS HUSBAND JAILED FOR MURDER IN ABERDEEN
NOW DECEASED A man identified as Richard Farquhar, aged 51, was convicted of murdering his estranged wife, Anne Farquhar, by stabbing her through the chest with a kitchen knife while he was driving on the A90.The attack occurred between Aberdeen and Stonehaven on the 18th of January.
Farquhar was given a life sentence with a minimum of 12 years to serve.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Farquhar had been having an affair with his friend’s wife, Karen Gordon, but upon discovering she had begun a relationship with Mrs Gordon's husband, Colin, his actions escalated.
Richard Farquhar had previously sent multiple text messages and letters pleading with his wife to return, despite his ongoing relationship with Mrs Gordon.
On the day of the attack, armed with two kitchen knives, he visited his wife's residence, sent a threatening message, and after a brief argument, shot her in the car, which he then stopped to support her dead body before fleeing.
He later admitted to police that he had intended to kill himself.
The court judged his actions as driven partly by marital infidelity and mental health issues, including depression, with a family history of mental illness leading to his brother's suicide.
He was also found to have tried to slash his wrists and hang himself while awaiting trial.
The judge described the impact as devastating, emphasizing the loss for his daughter and the emotional trauma inflicted.
