BIRMINGHAM MAN GUILTY OF BRUTAL MURDER AFTER CLAIMING 'ROUGH SEX' GONE WRONG
Richard Bailey, 41 years old and from Kingstanding in Birmingham, was found guilty of murdering Charlotte Teeling, who was a mother of two children.
Bailey strangled Ms Teeling merely five hours after they had met for the first time, following her departure from a nightclub on February 23.
Authorities reported that Bailey remained in the same room with her body for several days after her death, and a jury at Birmingham Crown Court unanimously convicted him.
During the trial, Bailey admitted that Ms Teeling died accidentally during what he described as rough sex, during which she had asked to be choked.
However, the prosecution presented evidence indicating that Bailey’s actions were intended to cause serious injuries.
The victim’s injuries included damage to her neck and mouth, along with a fractured bone near the base of her tongue, all pointing to deliberate violence.
Following her death, Bailey used her bank card and traveled to Coventry, where he sought to reconnect with an ex-girlfriend.
Her half-naked body was discovered on Bailey’s bed four days after she was reported missing, leading to his arrest.
CCTV footage captured the pair kissing in a supermarket prior to the attack.
Bailey was ordered to remain in custody ahead of sentencing, with the judge announcing he would face a life sentence, with the specific minimum term to be determined before he becomes eligible for parole.
