RHYS BEAUMONT'S SHOCKING REPEATED OFFENSES IN HULL SPARK OUTRAGE AND SCHOOL ACCESS CONTROVERSY

In July 2022, a disturbing situation unfolded in Hull that has left parents and community members deeply unsettled.

A convicted sex offender, Rhys Beaumont, who is on the sex offender register for life, was found to have been making regular visits to a primary school playground and attending school events at Griffin Primary School in East Hull.

This revelation has ignited a wave of anger among parents, many of whom are demanding stricter measures to prevent individuals with such a criminal background from gaining access to school grounds.

Despite Beaumont’s criminal history, there had been no formal restrictions preventing him from entering the school premises.

This allowed him to participate in routine activities such as school pick-ups, drop-offs, and even attending sports days as a parent.

Many parents expressed their disgust upon discovering that a man convicted of sexual offenses against a child was permitted on the school grounds, with some parents still unaware of his past.

The community’s concern was compounded by the fact that Beaumont’s presence was not initially flagged or restricted by the school authorities.

East Hull MP Karl Turner confirmed that he had been contacted by concerned parents regarding the situation.

He stated that he believed the school should have implemented a ban on Beaumont’s access to the grounds.

Following his intervention, it is understood that the school took steps to impose certain restrictions on Beaumont’s access, although the specifics of these measures remain unclear.

This incident has raised serious questions about the adequacy of current policies and the safety protocols in place for children and their families.

Looking back at Beaumont’s criminal record, it is known that in 2017, he was sentenced at Hull Crown Court to three years in prison for engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl in a drug den.

Beaumont, then aged 27, had admitted to two counts of sexual activity with a minor.

The court heard that Beaumont met the girl in the street, bought her cigarettes, and then engaged in a series of sexual acts with her, including unprotected sex on three separate occasions.

During the sentencing, Judge David Tremberg described Beaumont’s actions as extremely serious, emphasizing the risks of pregnancy and infection, and highlighting that Beaumont had no cognitive impairments that could mitigate his responsibility.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Tremberg stated, “In my judgement, this offending is so serious that only an immediate custodial sentence is appropriate for it.

You risked her becoming pregnant, you risked infection.

You have no cognitive deficiencies.

This was repeated offending.” The judge also noted Beaumont’s disturbing statement that he would “look after any child until she was 16,” which further underscored the gravity of his crimes.

Many parents at Griffin Primary School, some of whom were already aware of Beaumont’s criminal history, grew increasingly alarmed when they learned that he had open access to the school grounds.

This led to the initiation of a petition aimed at banning him from the school premises and a campaign to inform other parents about his past crimes.

The community’s outrage was amplified by a social media post that circulated widely, being shared over 60 times by concerned mothers and fathers.

In April 2017, Beaumont’s criminal activities came to light in a case that shocked the Hull community.

He was convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old girl at a drug den, after initially buying her cigarettes and calling her “nice names” and professing his love for her.

The teenage girl later told her mother that she had spent the night at Beaumont’s house, where she was given vodka and cannabis by others present.

She was found the next morning in bed, naked from the waist down, and confirmed to her family that she had engaged in sexual activity with Beaumont.

Her mother and sister promptly contacted the police.

Prosecutor Philip Standfast detailed that Beaumont and the girl had unprotected sex three times, with Beaumont telling her he would “look after any child until she was 16” and instructing her not to tell anyone.

The girl also revealed that Beaumont had called her and her friend “beautiful” and had asked both to have sex, though her friend declined due to Beaumont’s age.

The girl expressed feelings of fear mixed with a desire for the sexual encounters to happen.

Beaumont declined to answer questions during police interviews, even after DNA evidence linked him to the girl’s underwear.

At Hull Crown Court, Judge Tremberg sentenced Beaumont to 35 months in prison, emphasizing the importance of protecting minors from exploitation.

He stated, “The reason why the age of consent is 16 is that the law regards anyone under that age as lacking the capacity to make a reasoned judgement about the merits, advantages, pitfalls, and especially the consequences, of sexual activity.

The law therefore exists to protect sexually precocious children from themselves, as much as it tries to protect them from adults who might take advantage of it.” As Beaumont was led away to serve his sentence, a woman in the courtroom called out to him, saying, “Rhys, write to me as soon as you get in there,” highlighting the personal connections and ongoing relationships that sometimes persist even after conviction.

This case continues to resonate within the Hull community, raising urgent questions about safeguarding children and the adequacy of existing measures to prevent known offenders from accessing vulnerable environments such as schools.
