REYNO DU TOIT SENTENCED IN NOTTINGHAM FOR SEX OFFENSES
A sex offender who targeted young women walking alone has been sentenced to prison after DNA evidence linked him to the crimes.Reyno Du Toit, a 41-year-old from Derby, attacked five women on Nottingham's Park estate in October 2020.
He exposed himself to three women and assaulted two others.
Du Toit was sentenced to two years in prison at Nottingham Crown Court after admitting two counts of sexual assault and three counts of exposure.
Nottinghamshire Police stated that Du Toit, residing on Goodsmoor Road, Derby, exposed himself to three women on the afternoon of 24 October in Rolleston Drive, Harlaxton Drive, and Allington Road.
Two days later, he assaulted two women walking along Lenton Road and Rolleston Drive.
The police described Du Toit as a "despicable offender" and revealed he was arrested in December after his vehicle was linked to each of the incident scenes.
During the investigation, authorities confronted him with compelling DNA evidence obtained from the clothing of one of his victims.
Unbeknownst to Du Toit, he left a trace of DNA on his final victim when he groped her over her clothes.
Detective Constable Fiona McVey explained, "He had left behind trace DNA evidence on her jeans." She further commented on his actions, calling him a "despicable offender who deliberately targeted lone young women as they walked near their homes." She added, "His offending was clearly escalating in its seriousness and we worked exhaustively to track him down as soon as possible.
Thanks to the work of a highly motivated team of detectives, the evidence we were later able to confront him with was so detailed and so damning that he really had no choice but to admit to what he had done."
