REBECCA GREGORY SHOCKS STOCKPORT WITH BRUTAL ABUSE AT TINY TOES NURSERY IN CHEADLE HULME
Rebecca Gregory, a nursery worker from Stockport, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of severely mistreating infants under her care at Tiny Toes nursery located in Cheadle Hulme. The 25-year-old, who resides on Pearl Street, admitted to multiple charges of deliberate child abuse, actions that have sparked outrage and concern over childcare standards in the area.Evidence against Gregory was uncovered through CCTV footage captured on 26 April 2022, which vividly depicted her engaging in excessively rough and inappropriate handling of vulnerable babies. The footage revealed her making threatening remarks such as, "You want me to knock you out?" while she was holding a crying infant wrapped tightly in a blanket. Such behavior, captured on camera, raised immediate alarm about the safety and well-being of the children entrusted to her care.
Further disturbing scenes showed Gregory pushing over a second child after threatening to kick him, stating, "I’m actually going to kick him in a minute." These aggressive actions, although not resulting in visible injuries, are considered highly unacceptable and indicative of a serious breach of childcare responsibilities. In addition, she was seen roughly placing a third baby into a cot and telling the child to "shut up," before later dropping the child onto the floor. These acts of rough handling and verbal abuse highlight a pattern of neglect and misconduct.
Another distressing incident involved Gregory forcefully inserting a dummy into a child's mouth, instructing them to "Put that in your gob and shut up." While no physical injuries were reported, such behavior is deeply troubling and reflects a disregard for the emotional and physical safety of the children.
The director of the Crown Prosecution Service, Karen Tongue, described Gregory’s conduct as "truly appalling" and emphasized that her actions demonstrated a neglect of proper childcare protocols. Gregory’s crimes came to light amid an investigation into another nursery worker, Kate Roughley, who was subsequently sentenced to 14 years in prison for manslaughter after being responsible for the death of nine-month-old baby Genevieve Meehan at the same nursery. The revelations of abuse and neglect led to the closure of Tiny Toes nursery in 2022, marking a dark chapter in local childcare history.
During the sentencing, the judge condemned Gregory’s behavior as "deplorable" and highlighted the broader issue of a culture within the nursery that failed to challenge or address inappropriate conduct. This environment, the judge noted, placed vulnerable children at serious risk and underscored the urgent need for stricter oversight and accountability in childcare settings across Stockport and beyond.
