RAZA LASKAR FROM ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE INVOLVED IN CHILD SEX ABUSE AND IMAGE POSSESSION CASE IN GREATER MANCHESTER

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Ashton-under-Lyne and the wider Greater Manchester area, Dr. Raza Laskar, a junior paediatric doctor, has admitted to serious allegations of sexually abusing young boys and possessing a vast collection of indecent images. The case came to light following a police operation targeting individuals who accessed and shared child abuse images online, leading to Laskar's arrest and subsequent court proceedings.

Dr. Raza Laskar, aged 32, appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court where he faced a total of 37 charges. During the hearing, he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing boys as young as 12 years old. However, he denied six of the charges brought against him. The charges included allegations of grooming children via online platforms, although the court ordered these to remain on file, indicating ongoing investigations or unresolved issues related to those specific allegations.

It was confirmed by police that Laskar’s criminal activities extended beyond his online conduct. In May, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence in Ashton-under-Lyne, uncovering a disturbing cache of digital material. Investigators found approximately 1,605 files believed to contain indecent photographs of children, uploaded from an IP address registered to his home between Christmas Day 2013 and early January 2014. The police also discovered hundreds of chat logs and videos depicting Laskar engaging in sexual acts with a child, who was reportedly taken to a hotel room that Laskar had personally booked.

Further examination revealed that Laskar possessed an astonishing collection of over 1.2 million images related to child exploitation. The victims depicted in these images were from various locations, including the UK and other countries around the world. Police investigations confirmed that some of the victims were based locally, while others were international, highlighting the global reach of the offender’s activities.

It is important to note that NHS England confirmed that Laskar’s criminal conduct was not related to his professional duties or his work with children in hospitals across Greater Manchester. Nonetheless, the organization expressed its sympathies to the victims and their families, emphasizing that the charges pertained solely to his private conduct.

Det Insp Theresa Carter commented on the case, describing Laskar as a person with a stark moral dichotomy. She stated, “Like Jekyll and Hyde, he is vastly different in moral character depending on the situation, going from caring for and treating children to deliberately targeting, grooming, and abusing them.” She also reassured the public that there was no evidence to suggest any abuse occurred during his employment or in his professional capacity.

Laskar is scheduled to be sentenced on January 9, with authorities emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes and the need for justice to be served. The case continues to serve as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers posed by individuals who may appear trustworthy but conceal darker intentions behind a facade of professionalism.
