In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Nottingham, a man named Raymond Prescott has been convicted and sentenced for a prolonged period of sexual abuse inflicted upon his own daughter, Layla Bell, over a span of two decades.The disturbing details of this case have come to light through a combination of her brave testimony and a secretly recorded confession that ultimately led to his imprisonment.
Prescott, aged 54 and residing in Clifton, Nottingham, first began assaulting his daughter when she was only seven years old.
He manipulated her into keeping their secret, telling her that what was happening was a private matter between them.
Layla, who has five older siblings, described her father as having a dual personality—initially appearing as her caring father but later revealing himself as a sexual predator.
Her account paints a picture of a man who would suddenly turn from her 'best friend' into someone who committed heinous acts against her.
The abuse was brazen and ongoing, with Prescott openly groping her and making disturbing statements such as, “I’m having sex with my own daughter.” These acts and words persisted over many years, creating a cycle of trauma for Layla.
When she attempted to seek help and spoke out to police in 2001, her relatives dismissed her as a “gobby bitch,” leading her to withdraw her allegations.
She then turned to alcohol and drugs as a means of coping with her pain.
The turning point in her pursuit of justice came in December 2012, after Prescott made an aggressive move to attack her once more.
This time, Layla was prepared; she recorded his confession on her phone.
The seven-minute recording captured Prescott admitting to their sexual relationship, stating, “I have already f****d you.
We have had sex.
No-one will find out, we’ll keep it a secret.” He further revealed his feelings, saying, “I can’t have sex with anyone else and enjoy it, so I want to have sex with you,” and expressed remorse and confusion about his actions, saying, “I wish you weren’t my daughter.” In the recording, Prescott also disclosed his plans to rekindle a relationship with Layla’s mother, which he believed would bring him closer to her.
As Layla attempted to leave, Prescott’s behavior grew more aggressive, and he appeared to lunge toward her.
Despite his threats and actions, she managed to leave the house with her belongings, feeling frightened and overwhelmed.
Layla handed the footage over to Nottinghamshire Police in February 2013.
The investigation was launched, and Prescott was charged with multiple counts of rape.
He denied the allegations, but evidence against him was overwhelming.
In May of the following year, Prescott was convicted at Nottingham Crown Court and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
