RAYMOND KEARNEY FROM DEGANWY AND LLANDUDNO JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AND DRUGS IN NORTH WALES

In a series of serious legal proceedings in North Wales, Raymond Kearney, a man with connections to both Deganwy and Llandudno, has faced multiple charges related to sexual misconduct and drug possession. His criminal activities have resulted in significant prison sentences and court orders aimed at protecting the public.

As of March 2013, Raymond Kearney is currently serving time at HMP Altcourse, following his conviction for a disturbing case involving a minor. The incident dates back to January 2013, when Kearney, aged 45 and residing at Plas Newydd, Deganwy, was sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child. The court proceedings took place at Mold Crown Court, where Kearney was also placed on the sex offenders register and subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO). This order explicitly prohibits him from having any contact with individuals under the age of 16, except for unavoidable interactions in daily life.

The court was informed that Kearney had engaged in a sexual relationship with a girl under 16, which led to her becoming pregnant. The judge, Niclas Parry, expressed strong condemnation of Kearney’s actions, stating that he had exploited the innocence of a child for his own gratification. Judge Parry emphasized that Kearney had effectively groomed the girl, engaging her in sexually explicit text conversations that culminated in full intercourse. The judge highlighted that Kearney’s conduct showed a blatant disregard for the victim’s welfare, knowing her age and taking advantage of her vulnerability.

During the sentencing, the judge pointed out that the most serious aggravating factor was the fact that Kearney had caused the girl to become pregnant. Although it was accepted that the girl had consented to some of the acts, the law’s primary purpose is to protect young girls from exploitation, even from themselves. The public gallery responded with applause when the four-year sentence was announced.

Defense counsel Simon Mintz acknowledged the gravity of the case but suggested that the relationship, while inappropriate, involved genuine affection from both parties. He emphasized that Kearney’s actions, though wrong, were not devoid of emotional connection.

In addition to the sexual offence case, Raymond Allan Kearney faced charges related to drug possession. On January 12 of the same year, police executed a search warrant at his residence on Victoria Road, Llandudno, uncovering 181 ecstasy tablets stored in a mug. Kearney, aged 39 at the time, admitted to possessing the drugs with intent to supply and was subsequently sentenced to two years in prison by Judge Philip Hughes at Caernarfon Crown Court. The judge underscored the seriousness of possessing class A drugs, stating that only a custodial sentence was appropriate for such an offence.

Prior to these incidents, Kearney’s criminal record included a 2007 conviction for drug trafficking, which also resulted in a two-year prison term. His ongoing legal issues reflect a pattern of criminal behavior involving both drug-related crimes and sexual offences, with the courts taking firm action to address his conduct and protect the community of North Wales.
