ELDERLY MAN SENT FILTHY MESSAGE, FACES SEX OFFENDER TAG
A 75-year-old pensioner from Elgin has been placed on the sex offenders’ register after sending an explicit message to a married woman and then pleading with her to delete it.The incident occurred on March 23 of the same year.
According to court proceedings, Raymond Grant approached the woman outdoors around 3:55 pm and later sent her a message stating, “To be totally honest with you, I had bad thoughts about you, sorry.” When she asked for clarification, Grant inquired if she would delete the message, and then went on to describe a sex act in a subsequent message.
The woman felt uneasy but initially decided to respond, and after she texted back, Grant apologized multiple times, acknowledging he shouldn’t have sent the message.
When he attempted to call her, she blocked him and contacted the police, who examined screenshots of the communication.
Grant admitted to the court that he had sent alarming and indecent messages.
He did not plead guilty to a charge of sending an explicit image, which was accepted by the Crown.
The court, after reviewing background reports, imposed a two-year supervision order that included participation in a sex offender rehabilitation program, and officially placed him on the sex offenders’ register.
