RAYMOND DRAPER FROM THORNABY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON YOUNG GIRL IN TEESSIDE
In a case that has shocked the local community of Thornaby, Raymond Draper, a 50-year-old man, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for multiple sexual assaults committed against a young girl under the age of 13. The disturbing incidents came to light after the girl confided in her family members about the abuse, prompting an investigation that uncovered the troubling details of Draper's actions.According to the prosecution, led by Brian Hurst, Draper had sexually touched the young girl on three separate occasions. The court was informed that Draper, who resides on Mansfield Avenue in Thornaby, initially denied the allegations during police interviews. However, he later admitted to three counts of sexual assault involving a girl under 13, acknowledging his guilt in the matter.
The case also revealed a history of prior offenses. In July 2007, Draper was fined £500 after being convicted of possessing ten adult pornographic videos, which he was selling at a market stall. His criminal record extends back to the 1970s, with convictions for drug offenses, burglary, theft, and handling stolen goods, indicating a long history of criminal behavior.
During the court proceedings, Draper's defense attorney, Robin Denny, stated that his client had fully accepted responsibility for his actions. Denny described the offenses as isolated incidents and emphasized that they did not involve any physical contact beyond touching. He also suggested that Draper struggled with feelings of inadequacy in his relationships with adult women, which may have contributed to his behavior.
Judge George Moorhouse sentenced Draper to 18 months in prison and imposed a 10-year sexual offences prevention order. This order prohibits Draper from having any unsupervised contact with individuals under the age of 18. Additionally, Draper will be required to register as a sex offender for the next decade, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
