RAYMOND CROFT FROM PORT TALBOT FOUND DEAD IN RIVER TAFF NEAR CARDIFF AFTER MISSING SENTENCING

In a tragic development, the body of Raymond Croft, a 58-year-old man from Port Talbot, was discovered in the River Taff near Cardiff, specifically close to Sophia Gardens. Croft was a convicted sex offender who was scheduled to face sentencing for serious crimes involving children, but he failed to appear at Swansea Crown Court last week, prompting authorities to take action.

Prior to his death, Croft had been found guilty of multiple sexual offences, including sexual assault, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and attempted sexual activity with a minor. His conviction marked a significant case within the region, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address crimes against children.

On the day of his scheduled sentencing, Judge John Diehl QC had issued a warrant for Croft’s arrest after he did not show up in court. Following the discovery of his body, South Wales Police issued a statement confirming his identity. A police spokesman stated, “We can confirm that the body of a man found in the River Taff has been identified as that of Raymond Croft. There are no suspicious circumstances and the coroner has been informed.”
