RAWDON HUME FROM MACHEN SENTENCED FOR SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENSES IN CAERPHILLY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Caerphilly, Rawdon Hume, a 35-year-old man residing in Graig-y-Rhacca, Machen, has been sentenced to prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses.The crimes, which spanned over a year, involved not only the assault of a sleeping victim but also the recording and possession of indecent images and videos, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior.
Hume had previously pleaded guilty to up to 26 separate charges during a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court.
These charges included multiple counts of sexual assault, voyeurism, and possession of indecent images.
The voyeurism charges stemmed from videos he secretly recorded of his victim in the shower, while the possession charges involved a collection of explicit material stored on his devices.
Prosecutor James Wilson detailed the investigation, explaining that police officers executed a search warrant at Hume’s residence after receiving a tip-off indicating that indecent images had been downloaded from his home.
During the search, authorities uncovered a disturbing cache of material, including seven videos featuring indecent content involving children.
Of these, four were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of child exploitation, two as Category B, and one as Category C.
Additionally, the police found 108 images depicting extreme adult pornography, further highlighting the extent of Hume’s illicit collection.
Hume’s own statements during police interviews revealed a troubling lack of awareness or remorse.
He claimed, “I look at porn, I didn’t know that it was child porn but some looked young,” suggesting a disturbing ignorance or denial regarding the nature of the material he possessed.
Further examination of his devices uncovered an additional 14 images that, while not classified as indecent, were deemed inappropriate and concerning.
Most alarmingly, authorities recovered 60 video files recorded by Hume himself, which documented the sexual abuse of his sleeping victim.
These recordings, which Hume kept for his own perverted gratification, exposed a prolonged pattern of exploitation.
The victim, when questioned by police, was unaware of the recordings and the extent of the abuse, underscoring the betrayal of trust involved in the case.
During sentencing, Judge Jeremy Jenkins condemned Hume’s actions as a sustained and calculated breach of trust.
He described the offenses as a “sustained and determined course of sexual abuse which you carried out for your own sexual gratification.” The judge emphasized the gravity of filming the victim while they slept and retaining the images for personal gratification, calling it a “perverted pleasure.” Hume was sentenced to nine months in prison for the most serious offenses, with an additional four months for related charges.
Furthermore, he will be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will be registered as a sexual offender for an indefinite period, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
