RANDALL REYNOLDS AND HIS SHOCKING CRIMES IN BRISTOL
Randall Reynolds, a 27-year-old man from Bristol, committed a series of disturbing acts that have led to his conviction and lengthy imprisonment. His actions included a brutal sexual assault and an alarming threat of violence, spreading fear and outrage within the community.
In January, Reynolds engaged in a troubling incident involving a woman who was significantly intoxicated at the time.
Recognizing her state of alcohol impairment, he took advantage of her vulnerability.
The court learned that Reynolds had assured the victim’s friends, who had briefly left her alone to go to the shops, that nothing would happen during their absence.
However, during that 40-minute period, he committed a sexual assault, violating her during her intoxicated state without her proper consent.
Reynolds had initially contacted the woman through social media, claiming he was a well-known figure and falsely boasting that he had performed a rap with the rapper Dappy from N-Dubz.
This attempt at impressing the victim was part of his manipulative tactics.
The two agreed to meet at a pub in Swindon, with the woman bringing her friends along for reassurance and safety.
The court was shown evidence, including a video in which the victim was seen supported by her friends, clearly intoxicated.
The prosecution highlighted that Reynolds was aware of the victim’s intoxicated condition, as he was drinking slowly himself, reportedly because he was staying at a hostel in Bristol that required him to remain sober.
Despite his knowledge of her state, he proceeded with sexual activity, which the court noted was an assault given her inability to give informed consent.
After the incident, Reynolds continued to pose a threat.
He threatened to return to Swindon and harm the victim, warning her he would come to her house and blow it up.
These threats left her terrified and disturbed her peace.
The situation escalated further as Reynolds and the victim exchanged taunts on social media following the assault.
Reynolds was eventually detained by police after making the threat, during which he was found to have provided conflicting accounts about his involvement.
Initially, he denied any sexual contact, claiming he recognized that she was too drunk to give consent and that he did not take advantage of her.
In a police interview, Reynolds stated, "I know what right and wrong is, she was falling everywhere, and you know when a woman’s drunk, you don’t take advantage." However, under further questioning, he admitted to having sex with the woman but insisted she was a willing participant.
Defense counsel Emma Handslip argued that Reynolds’s actions might have been influenced by a learning disability that affected his understanding of social cues and boundaries.
While acknowledging that this disability might have had some impact, Judge Jason Taylor QC emphasized that it did not absolve him of responsibility.
The judge pointed out that Reynolds was fully aware of the circumstances, including the conditions of his hostel in Bristol and the delicate situation involving the intoxicated woman.
The judge criticized his prioritization of personal gratification over her welfare and his inability to control his impulses.
Reynolds, who resided at Ashley House Probation Hostel in Bristol, was sentenced to serve six years in prison for his crimes.
Additionally, upon release, he will remain under supervision for a further two years on license, ensuring continued monitoring and restrictions to protect public safety.
This case underscores the importance of accountability and the dangers posed by those who exploit vulnerable individuals, prompting calls for greater awareness and preventive measures within the community.
