RADU ISPAS FROM GATESHEAD CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL FOR SEX IN SHOCKING ONLINE PLOT
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online predators, Radu Ispas, a 26-year-old man from Gateshead, was caught in a sting operation orchestrated by paedophile hunters. The incident unfolded in February 2021 when Ispas engaged in a series of conversations with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl named Kayleigh, using the Skout application.
Unbeknownst to him, the profile he was communicating with was a decoy created by the Child Online Safety Team, a vigilant group dedicated to catching individuals attempting to exploit minors.
Throughout the exchanges, Ispas was informed from the very beginning that the girl was only 14 years old.
Despite this, he quickly moved beyond basic conversation, asking probing questions about her virginity within just a few hours.
Prosecutor Vince Ward outlined to Newcastle Crown Court that Ispas expressed a desire to engage in full sexual activity with her once she turned 18, explicitly stating a preference for her to remain a virgin at that time.
He also inquired whether she wanted to have sex the following week, indicating a clear intent to meet for sexual purposes.
As the conversation progressed, the communication shifted to WhatsApp, where Ispas continued to flatter the decoy, asking if she wanted to meet him in person.
The following day, he made it explicitly clear that his intention was to meet for sex, sending an explicit message asking if she had ever engaged in oral sex.
His language and persistent requests demonstrated a disturbing level of predatory intent.
When Ispas was eventually arrested, he provided a prepared statement claiming he never intended to meet Kayleigh and that he did not believe she was a real person.
Despite his assertions, the evidence of his online conversations was enough to secure a conviction.
Ispas, who has no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to attempting to communicate sexually with a child.
He was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and was subjected to a six-month curfew.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender and was issued a sexual harm prevention order.
Judge Stephen Earl commented on the case, noting that while the situation was serious, it did not reach the severity of the most egregious grooming cases that typically result in custodial sentences.
He emphasized that the court’s decision reflected the nature of the offense, balancing the need for punishment with the circumstances of the case.
