PIETRO GRAFFAGNINO CAUGHT IN BRISTOL TRYING TO MEET 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In November 2017, a man from Bristol named Pietro Graffagnino found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation after attempting to arrange a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl. The incident unfolded through social media communications, where Graffagnino engaged in conversations with the young girl, expressing a desire to meet her in Bristol.
However, the girl’s mother quickly became suspicious of Graffagnino’s intentions.
When she refused permission for her daughter to meet him, Graffagnino continued to pursue contact, speaking to the girl on the phone.
During this conversation, the mother recognized a distinctive feature that raised alarm bells: Graffagnino’s voice was notably deep for a teenager, which prompted her to suspect that he was older than he claimed.
Concerned about the potential danger, she contacted the police to report the incident.
It was soon revealed that Graffagnino was actually 26 years old at the time, not the teenager he pretended to be.
The authorities identified him as a resident of Midland Road in St Philip’s, Bristol.
Following his arrest and subsequent court proceedings, Graffagnino, who is now 29, was found guilty of attempting to facilitate a child sex offence.
During his trial at Bristol Crown Court, Judge William Hart delivered a sentence of 18 months in prison, which was suspended for two years.
The judge explained that the verdict implied some level of sexual touching was likely, based on the jury’s findings.
Despite the gravity of the case, Judge Hart remarked that Graffagnino did not fit the typical profile of an internet predator seeking to exploit underage girls.
Instead, he described him as “sad rather than bad,” suggesting a complex motivation behind his actions.
As part of his sentence, Graffagnino was ordered to participate in a sex offender treatment program and to complete 120 hours of unpaid community service within the next year.
Additionally, he was subjected to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to prevent any future offending.
He was also required to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years and was prohibited from working with children or vulnerable adults.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Graffagnino had attempted to meet the girl near a pub, but her mother had refused permission, asserting that “her mum’s word is law.” The court heard that Graffagnino had tried to persuade the girl to lie to her mother, telling her, “I want you so bad and I want to see you.” The situation escalated when Graffagnino engaged in a phone call with the girl’s mother, during which her suspicions about his true age were confirmed by his voice.
This led to police intervention and his subsequent arrest, highlighting the serious nature of his actions and the importance of vigilance in protecting minors from exploitation.
