PIERS BRILLIANT FROM CHURCH ASTON JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SHREWSBURY
In a case that has shocked the community of Church Aston, Piers Brilliant, aged 49, has been handed a severe prison sentence after being convicted of heinous sexual offences involving a child under the age of 13. The sentencing took place at Shrewsbury Crown Court on a recent Friday, bringing closure to a lengthy and disturbing legal process.Brilliant, who previously admitted to possessing indecent images of children as well as extreme pornographic material, faced a jury trial where he was found guilty of multiple serious charges. The court heard that his crimes included one count of attempted rape of a child under 13, two counts of rape of a child under 13, and twelve counts of sexual assault against a minor of the same age. These allegations paint a disturbing picture of a man deeply entrenched in predatory behavior.
Judge Jason Macadam presided over the case and sentenced Brilliant to a total of 15 years in prison. The judge also ordered that Brilliant be placed on the sex offenders register for life, emphasizing the ongoing risk he poses to society. During the sentencing, Judge Macadam stated, "I do not accept as you get older that the risk you present to children will diminish, the body may fail but as I say, you are an entrenched paedophile."
Earlier in the proceedings, the judge expressed his satisfaction that the evidence clearly established Brilliant as a predatory paedophile, noting that he showed no remorse for his actions. The court also referenced the disturbing evidence found in Brilliant’s possession, which included thousands of indecent and extreme pornographic images involving children. The search terms used by Brilliant, as detailed in the report, indicated deliberate and systematic efforts to find images depicting young children, further underscoring the predatory nature of his crimes.
As part of his sentence, Brilliant was sentenced to 15 years in custody, with an additional four years on extended licence, ensuring he remains under supervision even after his release from prison. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Church Aston and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims from such heinous acts.
