Phillip Taylor

Birkenhead Sexual Abuser

November 2020 Predatory paedophile ruined life of ninth victim with sick abuse A predatory paedophile was handed more time behind bars after a NINTH victim came forward. Phillip Taylor groomed the parents of girls – one as young as three – so they trusted him to look after their children. The then married dad-of-two, who pretended to be a pillar of the community, was known to have abused eight girls over 20 years. The Wirral painter and decorator bathed his victims so he could touch them and even filmed himself abusing the youngsters. The then 54-year-old was only caught after one girl innocently told her dad that the way he put cream on her wasn’t the way “Philly” did it. When complaints were first made by two teens in 2000, he denied the allegations, and the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute. But years later, when police raided his Bratan Road, Birkenhead home, they found his sickening videos and thousands of child sex abuse images. He had little choice but to plead guilty to 58 sexual offences and was jailed for life, with a minimum of seven and a half years, in August 2013. Liverpool Crown Court heard that would have meant he was eligible to apply for parole in February 2021. However, he today fell to be sentenced again, having been unanimously convicted by a jury of six more offences, after a five-day trial. Prosecutors said Taylor groomed the ninth girl by spoiling her with treats and gifts, so she wanted to spend as much time as possible with him. The pervert, who appeared via video link from HMP Liverpool, made himself “invaluable” to her family, offering use of his computer and transport. Judge Gary Woodhall said: “You bought her and her family’s trust. Having done so you then began to use your time alone with her to sexually assault her.” Taylor made the girl take baths and showers, when he would watch, then helped wash her, claiming that it was important to stay clean. He would dry her and insist on applying talcum powder – all for his own sexual gratification – and watch her when she went to the toilet. Judge Woodhall said Taylor also took her out in his van and made her urinate in a bucket or pot while he watched. Anya Horwood, prosecuting, said the six charges covered 33 offences of indecent assaults, sexual assault and sexual activity with a child. The victim said: “When I was a child I worshipped Phillip Taylor. He lavished me with affection, gifts and attention. He got me anything I wanted. “I was too young to realise I was being manipulated and too young to realise what he had done to me was wrong.” The woman said she has been left scared and vulnerable in intimate relationships, suffers with anxiety, and struggles to sleep, especially when “the memory comes to the surface”. Judge Woodhall told Taylor that because he denied any wrongdoing, he was not entitled to any credit for guilty pleas. He said: “You have shown in my judgement in contesting this matter a complete lack of remorse about what you did.” When sentencing him in 2013, Judge Steven Everett described Taylor as a “cold, calculating, paedophilic predator”. Judge Woodhall said: “The report at that time described you as predatory, outwardly caring, while inwardly exploiting the trust placed in you and how you then showed no remorse.” He said Taylor was now described as a “model prisoner” and one report suggested he had completed courses giving him understanding and insight into his crimes. However, the judge said it also noted he continued to deny seeking out vulnerable families “and of course that report was prepared before the verdicts in this case”. Judge Woodhall said: “The fact is whatever courses you have been on whilst in custody, they did not help you to admit what you had done in relation to this girl. “You defended her allegations, you made her attend court and have to re-live what you had done, you had her challenged, and then you lied on oath.” He said Taylor’s attitude drove him to conclude that whatever work had been completed “it has not corrected your perverted views and interests about children”. The judge said Taylor was “dangerous” and sentenced him to four years in prison. This will extend the earliest date he can apply for parole by around 21 months, to November 2022. Judge Woodhall said Taylor must sign on the Sex Offenders Register and comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life. He said: “I have assessed a complete lack of remorse by you and a continuing failure to understand the effects of your offending on your victim.” August 2013 Wirral paedophile predator jailed for life A Wirral “paedophilic predator” who abused eight girls over a 20-year period while pretending to be a pillar of the community was jailed for life. Phillip Taylor, 54, groomed the parents of his victims – one as young as three – so they trusted him to look after them. But once he got them alone he bathed them, touched them and even filmed himself abusing them. Taylor, a dad-of-two, was only caught after one of his young victims innocently told her dad that the way he was rubbing cream into her body wasn’t the way “Philly” did it. It transpired that complaints had been made about Taylor, a painter and decorator who has been married for more than 25 years, as far back as 2000 but he denied the allegations made by two teenagers and the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute. But this time police who raided his home on Bratan Road, Birkenhead, recovered video clips of him actually abusing his victims, along with thousands of child porn images, giving him no choice but to plead guilty. Sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court Judge Stephen Everett said: “You were outwardly a picture of respectability, a man who had never been in trouble before. A picture of respectability and believability and somebody to be trusted. You grossly abused that trust for your own deviant sexual pleasure. “I have little doubt you have no inkling at all as to the trauma you have caused those families. “You are in my judgement cold and calculating. You are a paedophilic predator who groomed not just the girls but also their parents to trust you to look after their children which allowed you abuse those little girls. “I have little doubt if you had not been caught you would have been willing to continue this despicable behaviour for many, many years. “There is little doubt in my mind and my judgement from all I have heard and seen is that you will remain a dangerous offender for many, many, many years to come. It may be you will always remain a dangerous offender until the end of your life.” He jailed Taylor for life and told him he must serve a minimum of seven-and-a-half years before he could be considered for parole but said the reality was that he would be locked up for a lot longer than that. Judge Everett said: “I would not be surprised to see you in prison for the rest of your life.”
