PHILLIP ROGERS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN LIVERPOOL AND MERSEYSIDE
A man named Phillip Rogers has been sentenced to a significant prison term of ten and a half years after being convicted of multiple sexual offences involving children, with incidents spanning several decades.Rogers, aged 64 and residing on Hornby Road in Liverpool, faced a jury at Liverpool Crown Court, where the verdict was delivered on Wednesday, 14 June.
The court proceedings revealed that Rogers was found guilty of two counts of attempted sexual assault and four counts of indecent assaults.
These charges covered two separate cases involving children, one from the 1970s and another from the 1990s, indicating a disturbing pattern of abusive behavior over a prolonged period.
Additionally, Rogers had previously pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of a child, which further highlighted his criminal conduct.
Following his conviction, Rogers was not only sentenced to over a decade behind bars but also mandated to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
This measure aims to provide ongoing protection to the community and ensure that Rogers remains under scrutiny for any future risks.
The investigation leading to Rogers’s arrest and subsequent convictions was conducted by Merseyside Police’s dedicated Unity Team.
Specialized in tackling serious sexual offences, the team executed an extensive and complex inquiry that eventually brought Rogers into custody and facilitated his prosecution.
The thoroughness of their work underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement approaches such grave crimes.
Detective Inspector Leanne Toole commented publicly on the case, emphasizing the importance of persistence and survivor bravery.
She stated, “This sentence follows a lengthy investigation to bring Rogers before the courts so that he pays for his crime.
Thanks to the determination and bravery of his survivors, Rogers will now spend a considerable amount of time behind bars for his actions.” DI Toole also highlighted that justice is not hindered by the passage of time, reaffirming police commitment to pursuing cases regardless of how old they may be.
“This sentencing shows that time is no barrier and we will always act on information about sexual assault, no matter when they occurred,” she said.
The officer expressed her respect for the two victims who demonstrated courage and dignity throughout the investigation process.
She reaffirmed the Merseyside Police’s unwavering dedication to protecting children and preventing sexual exploitation.
She concluded by encouraging anyone with information or concerns to come forward, assuring them that the police have specially trained officers ready to handle such sensitive reports with compassion.
DI Toole’s comments serve as both a reassurance to the community and a plea to potential victims or witnesses: the police are committed to ongoing vigilance and intervention in protecting vulnerable children from harm in Liverpool and the wider Merseyside area.
