PHILLIP HART OF PLYMOUTH SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF THREE GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of Plymouth, Phillip Hart, a 55-year-old man from Underlane, Plympton, was handed a substantial prison sentence of 12 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving three young girls.The court proceedings, held at Plymouth Crown Court, revealed the disturbing extent of Hart's abuse over several years, spanning from the girls' early childhood into their early teens.
According to the evidence presented, Hart admitted to two counts of rape against a girl who was just 13 years old at the time of his conviction.
These charges also included two attempted rapes involving the same girl when she was only 11 and 12 years old.
The court heard that Hart had sexually abused this girl over a period of five years, starting from when she was approximately seven or eight years old and continuing until shortly after Christmas of the previous year.
The trauma inflicted on her was described as prolonged and deeply damaging.
In addition to the charges related to the 13-year-old girl, Hart was convicted of abusing a second girl, who was then 11 years old.
The abuse of this second victim included a single indecent assault when she was under ten years of age.
Prosecutor Martin Edmunds detailed how Hart’s misconduct extended over a significant period, with the abuse beginning when the girl was very young and continuing until she reached 13.
The court also heard evidence of Hart’s repeated offenses against a third girl, now aged 14.
This victim was subjected to ongoing abuse from the age of six until she was 13, illustrating a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned several years and multiple victims.
Judge Francis Gilbert, presiding over the case, sentenced Hart on multiple counts, including two of rape, two of attempted rape, eight of indecent assault, and seven counts of indecency with a child.
The severity of the crimes and the impact on the victims were reflected in the length of the sentence, which was met with a mixture of reactions from the courtroom.
As the sentence was announced, cheers erupted from the public gallery, where two of the girls, along with their families and friends, expressed relief and perhaps a sense of justice being served.
Furthermore, Hart will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, a measure intended to protect the community and monitor his conduct moving forward.
The case has left a lasting impression on the Plymouth community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the need to safeguard vulnerable children from such predatory individuals.
