PHILLIP GROVE FROM SHEFFIELD JAILED IN TAUNTON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING CHILDREN
Phillip Grove, a 70-year-old man originally from Sheffield, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term at Taunton Crown Court on Friday, 23 February, following his conviction on multiple serious charges related to historic sexual offences. At the time of the incidents, Grove was residing in Taunton, which is where the crimes were investigated and prosecuted.
During a trial held at the same court, which is currently operating out of North Somerset Courthouse, a jury found Grove guilty of a total of 15 charges.
These included two counts of rape, ten counts of indecency with a child, and three counts of indecent assault.
The court heard detailed accounts of the abuse, which spanned several years and involved multiple victims.
It was revealed that in the 1990s, Grove held the position of Chief Petty Officer within a Sea Cadet group, where he volunteered his time.
During this period, he committed heinous acts against young victims.
One victim was raped by Grove, while another was sexually assaulted.
Additionally, Grove engaged in indecent behaviour in front of two other children, all of which occurred over a period of six years.
These disturbing incidents came to light after one of the victims reported the abuse to authorities in September 2020, prompting a police investigation that eventually led to Grove’s arrest and subsequent trial.
Following his conviction, Grove was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
The court also imposed a one-year extension on his license, meaning he will be subject to extended supervision after his release.
Furthermore, the judge issued a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts Grove’s activities and access to vulnerable individuals.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and was explicitly barred from working with children in any capacity.
These measures aim to prevent any future harm and ensure public safety in the communities of Sheffield and Taunton.
