MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC DECAPITATION OF MOTHER IN SURREY
A man named Philip Tarver, aged 47, was found guilty of murder after killing his 86-year-old mother, Angela, in their shared residence in Woking, Surrey.
The Old Bailey heard that he attacked her using an ornamental sword, which resulted in her decapitation.
Her head was later recovered from a freezer, and an unusual detail was that her finger was placed inside a kettle, illustrating the violence involved.
Court testimony indicated that Tarver had consumed cocaine and alcohol the day before the incident, during which he acted strangely and appeared demented.
Witnesses, including his father Colin, described his erratic behavior; Colin recalled that his son had yellow eyes and had threatened to kill him.
When Colin tried to intervene, Tarver fought him for several minutes.
Upon police arrival, Tarver was seen waving a flag while holding a knife and stating he was surrendering.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 19 years for the murder, and an 18-month sentence for threatening his father, to run at the same time.
The presiding judge mentioned that Tarver had been suffering from a drug-induced mental disorder at the time and expressed great sadness over the loss of Angela, praising her as a person who radiated love and joy to those around her.
