PHILIP HUNTER FROM SUNDERLAND ESCAPES CONVICTION AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEENAGER IN SUNDERLAND

In a case that has drawn significant attention, Philip Hunter, a man residing in Sunderland, was recently involved in an incident that led to a court hearing concerning allegations of sexual assault against a teenage girl. The incident took place in June 2001, and the court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Hunter's actions that day.

According to court reports, the young girl, who has chosen to remain unnamed, had visited Hunter's residence on June 29 to collect her weekly payment. The girl, only 15 years old at the time, approached Hunter's home with the expectation of completing her task. However, what transpired next was far from routine. The court heard that Hunter, 47 years old, forcibly pulled the girl into his house without her consent. This act of dragging her inside was followed by an attempt to kiss and touch her inappropriately, despite her protests and efforts to escape.

The court was told that Hunter's son was present upstairs, engaged with his computer, unaware of the unfolding events below. The young girl recounted her ordeal, stating, “He grabbed my arm and pulled me in. His hands were all over me, touching my bottom. He was kissing my neck and trying to kiss me properly with his tongue.” She further explained that Hunter blocked her exit by jumping in front of her and shutting the door. Despite this, she managed to open the door and escape. During her attempt to leave, Hunter allegedly grabbed her again, but she pushed him away and succeeded in fleeing the scene.

The girl was left deeply traumatized by the incident, to the extent that she immediately quit her job out of fear and distress. Following her report, Hunter was arrested by police. During police questioning, Hunter claimed that he had invited the girl into his home because he was watching football on TV and did not want to miss the match. He maintained his innocence, insisting that he had done nothing inappropriate.

Despite his claims, the court found Hunter guilty of indecent assault after a jury deliberation. Hunter, who resides at Holy Lake Square, Hylton Lane, Sunderland, was sentenced to pay a fine of £150 in compensation and £150 in court costs. Additionally, he was placed on probation for a period of 12 months. The judge, Michael Cartlidge, emphasized the impact of Hunter’s actions, stating, “Whatever you might say, there is no doubt she was sufficiently upset to stop coming to your door and not continue with her job.”

Furthermore, Hunter was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years, a measure intended to monitor his activities and prevent future offenses. The case highlights the serious consequences of inappropriate conduct and underscores the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation and abuse in the community of Sunderland.
