BRISTOL MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE AND ATTEMPTED RAPE
A 41-year-old man who admitted to committing "horrific" acts on a child has been sentenced to prison.Peter Woolley, a resident of Bristol, has been sentenced to 12 years after he pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted rape of a child under 13 and one count of sexual assault of a child under 13. He was also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order. The victim shared a statement expressing ongoing harm: "I feel uncomfortable around men. I am conscious of what clothes I'm wearing and I feel like men are always looking at me." Woolley's crimes spanned over four years, during which he sexually assaulted and attempted to rape the victim in Bristol. Police were alerted in 2020, but Woolley fled to Jamaica the day after the most recent incident. He returned to the UK in August and was promptly arrested, interviewed, and remanded in custody. The court was told that Woolley's actions have profoundly affected the victim, who now feels anxious, cries easily, and prefers to spend time alone in the dark. Det Con Elizabeth Howell praised the victim's bravery, stating: "No one should be subjected to attacks of this nature, but to have had this happen at such a young age makes this all the more horrific. She has shown incredible endurance and courage while we attempted to bring Woolley back from Jamaica." The judge described Woolley as having robbed the victim of her childhood. Woolley was also given a lifetime ban from working with children and vulnerable adults, and he will be registered as a sex offender.
