KILWINNING MAN JAILED FOR VATICAN CONFESSION OF SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man named Peter Thompson, aged 41, from Kelburne Square, Kilwinning, Ayrshire, went to see Celtic play in Europe and then made a full confession at the Vatican admitting to sexual offenses against a young girl, a court heard yesterday.
Lord Ross was told at the High Court in Edinburgh that after making the confession, Thompson experienced a 'frightening' journey home, believing that the Pope was pursuing him to take revenge for his malicious actions.
Thompson pleaded guilty to the sexual assaults after returning to Scotland, and the judge sentenced him to four years in prison.
Sentencing had been deferred pending psychiatric reports, and Lord Ross acknowledged Thompson’s mental health issues but emphasized that the offenses were serious.
