HUNGARIAN MAN SPARED JAIL AFTER SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMEN IN NAIRN
A Hungarian man named Peter Rozgonyi has been convicted of sexually assaulting women at Inverness Sheriff Court but has been spared jail time.Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald dismissed Rozgonyi's claim that his behavior was rooted in cultural differences, stating, "This was not cultural, this was just wrong." Rozgonyi, aged 56, was previously convicted of two counts of sexual assault committed between November 2020 and June 2021.
During the trial, victims testified that Rozgonyi made inappropriate comments about their bodies, nicknamed one woman “Barbie,” and on several occasions touched them inappropriately in a manner they did not consent to.
One woman recounts how Rozgonyi initially made her uncomfortable with comments and touched her breast over her clothes, and on another occasion, he fiddled with her bra strap and touched her bottom with a "grab." Rozgonyi admitted to police that he kissed one woman on the head, though he claimed his actions were friendly and humorous, with his defense suggesting some actions were "lost in translation".
The court found his actions unacceptable, and Sheriff MacDonald emphasized that the misconduct was "just wrong" and distressing for the victims.
Rozgonyi was sentenced to a community payback order with six months of supervision and was ordered to remain on the sex offenders register for an equivalent period, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses.
