NAIRN SEX OFFENDER CODEY MASSON HARASSES TEEN GIRLS OVER FOUR YEARS

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Nairn, a man named Codey Masson, aged 28, faced serious allegations of sexual misconduct spanning a period of four years. The incidents involved multiple teenage girls and a young woman, all of whom were subjected to harassment, inappropriate messaging, and unwelcome explicit images.

Masson, who resides at Ord View Brae in Nairn, appeared before Inverness Sheriff Court to face the charges. It was revealed that he had a prior conviction for a similar sex offence committed during the same timeframe, from August 2015 to August 2019. The court heard that he admitted to a total of six charges, which included engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16, as well as communicating indecently with the victims. These charges also encompassed sending explicit images of male genitalia to the victims and, in some instances, exposing himself to them.

Prosecutor Pauline Gair provided detailed accounts of the disturbing incidents. She explained that most of the encounters began innocuously on social media platforms but quickly escalated into sexualized exchanges. The first victim was a girl approximately 13 or 14 years old. Their initial meeting took place at Masson’s home, where they exchanged messages. However, the situation took a darker turn when Masson met her at the Co-op on Moss-side Road in Nairn. During this encounter, he expressed romantic interest, telling her he liked her more than just a friend. The girl made it clear she was not interested, but Masson’s behavior became increasingly inappropriate.

Mrs. Gair recounted that Masson looked around to ensure no one was watching, then exposed himself and asked her if she wanted to touch or suck his private parts. The girl responded by telling him to put it away and then walked away. A few days later, the same girl encountered Masson again in the woods near Nairn, where he apologized, cuddled her, and again exposed himself, performing a sex act on himself before asking her to do the same. The girl ran away in distress.

The prosecutor further described a third incident involving the same girl, who was mourning the death of a friend at a house in Nairn. During this visit, Masson cuddled her and touched her inappropriately, again exposing his private parts. She immediately told him to leave and left the house.

Beyond these initial incidents, the court heard about the experiences of five other victims. Masson repeatedly asked them for nude photographs, sent them images of his own genitalia, and asked for sex. Despite his persistent advances, all the girls rejected his requests, and there was no evidence that they consented to the images or the sexual propositions.

During the hearing, defence lawyer Bill Adam briefly addressed the court, noting that Masson had not offended since 2019. He expressed regret that the previous offence from 2018 was not included in the current charges and highlighted that his client had completed a social work program and had moved on from his past behavior.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald decided to defer sentencing until March 12, pending a background report and an assessment to determine whether Masson should be placed on a rehabilitation program for sex offenders. In the meantime, he was immediately placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, reflecting the seriousness of the allegations and the court’s concern for community safety.
