PETER MILLAR FROM PERTHSHIRE SENTENCED FOR SICKENING HOME INVASIONS AND RAPE CASES

A man from Perthshire, identified as Peter Millar, has been handed a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of heinous crimes involving the invasion of two women’s homes and sexual assault. The incidents, which took place over a span of several years, have shocked the local communities and brought to light the disturbing nature of his offenses.

Peter Millar, aged 44 and residing on Mayfield Terrace in Scone, was found guilty by a jury of two counts of rape and assault. The High Court in Perth heard that Millar’s first attack occurred in 2006, with the second taking place in 2011. The court also learned that Millar was subsequently placed on the sex offenders register, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring.

The court proceedings revealed that Millar’s first assault happened between September 1 and December 30, 2006, in his hometown of Scone. During this period, he entered the home of a woman without permission, entered her bedroom, climbed into her bed, and committed a sexual assault. The jury found him guilty of these actions, which left a lasting impact on the victim.

Five years later, in the village of Stormontfield, also in Perthshire, Millar committed a similar offense. Between February 25 and March 13, 2011, he again entered a woman’s home uninvited, entered her bedroom, and raped her. The jury’s verdict confirmed his guilt in this second case as well.

In addition to the assaults, Millar was charged with harassment related to the second victim. This included repeatedly sending her threatening messages via Facebook and text, making harassing phone calls, and stalking her by watching her home and following her. However, these additional charges were dropped by the Crown during the trial.

During the sentencing, Lord Bracadale addressed Millar directly, stating, "The jury found you guilty of raping two women. You have no relevant previous convictions and a reasonable work record. Taking the two charges together, you will be sentenced to seven years imprisonment."

Millar’s defense lawyer, Ronnie Renucci, expressed that his client maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. Renucci acknowledged the jury’s verdict but emphasized that Millar accepted the conviction and recognized the seriousness of his crimes. He also highlighted that Millar, a mature man with a mostly full-time employment history and only one minor previous conviction, had never been in custody before.

It was noted that Millar’s criminal activities came to light after the two women, who lived a few miles apart, began communicating through Facebook. Their social media interactions eventually led to the discovery of the assaults, bringing the case to public attention and prompting the court’s decisive action.
