PETER MELVILLE REOFFENDER FROM SOUTHSEA JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AND BREACH OF ORDER

A man with a troubling history of sexual offenses, Peter Melville, has been sentenced to a significant prison term after committing a serious breach of a court-imposed sexual harm prevention order. The incident, which involved indecent exposure to two young girls, took place in Covingham, and Melville’s actions have now led to his incarceration for 46 months.

Peter Melville, aged 60 and residing on Highland Road in Portsmouth, appeared before Swindon Crown Court last Friday, February 14th, where he pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his sexual harm prevention order. The breach was linked to an incident that occurred on September 3, 2024, during which Melville approached two girls, both aged 12 at the time, in Covingham. According to court reports, Melville told the girls that he was sexually attracted to them before proceeding to unzip his trousers in an apparent attempt to expose himself.

Authorities responded swiftly to the incident, utilizing CCTV footage and doorbell camera footage to identify the suspect. It was revealed that Melville, who was previously known as Raymond Casson, has a long history of sexual offenses, with more than ten prior convictions. His criminal record underscores a pattern of concerning behavior that has persisted over the years.

Following the incident, Melville was located and detained by firearms officers near the M4 motorway in Swindon at approximately 6:30 pm. He was taken into custody and has remained in detention since then. The court proceedings included emotional testimonies from the victims, who described the lasting impact of Melville’s actions.

One of the young girls, who initially did not feel scared, expressed that Melville’s behavior left her feeling unsafe and anxious about going out alone. She recounted, “He looked like an innocent, normal man when he walked past—I didn’t think he was going to do something like that. I was crying and feeling terrified for a while. It was only when the police arrived I started to calm down because I knew they were going to help and he wouldn’t come back.”

Another victim shared her experience of trying to deter Melville by banging and kicking a house door in an effort to scare him away after he approached her. Her account highlights the distress and fear caused by Melville’s actions, which have had a profound effect on the young girls involved.

Overall, the court’s decision reflects the seriousness of Melville’s breach of the court order and his previous criminal conduct. His sentencing aims to protect the community and prevent further offenses, emphasizing the importance of strict enforcement of such orders to safeguard vulnerable individuals.
