A man identified as Peter David Long has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences committed decades ago.
The 66-year-old, who is known to have resided in Cardiff, pleaded guilty on August 21, 2024, to a total of nineteen charges related to the abuse of young girls.
Specifically, Long admitted to six counts of engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, along with thirteen counts of indecent assault.
These offences spanned a period that dates back to the 1970s, involving four different girls whose ages ranged from just seven to 14 at the time of the abuse.
The allegations highlight a disturbing pattern of predatory behaviour that persisted over many years.
Following the guilty plea, the case proceeded to sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, October 25.
The court sentenced Long to a total of 24 years in prison, with an additional one year on licence, meaning he will be subject to supervision after his release.
Furthermore, the court imposed a lifetime restraining order to prevent any contact with all the complainants involved in the case.
In addition to his prison sentence and restraining order, Long was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
This measure ensures ongoing monitoring and restrictions aimed at protecting the public, particularly vulnerable children, from any potential risk posed by Long in the future.
The case underscores the importance of justice for victims of historical abuse and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring offenders to account, regardless of how much time has passed since the offences occurred.
