PETER HILL PLYMOUTH PENSIONER CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT SERVICES
In May 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded in Plymouth involving a 73-year-old pensioner named Peter Hill, who found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation.Hill, a resident of Royal William Yard in Plymouth, had engaged in online conversations with an individual he believed was a man named Neil, who claimed to have a 13-year-old niece named Kayleigh.
The conversations, which began on January 30th, revealed Hill's disturbing intentions as he discussed plans to meet with the supposed minor for sexual activity.
According to court reports, Hill signed up to a chat website under the pseudonym 'Aero' and soon started communicating with Neil.
During their exchanges, Neil alleged that he was sexually active with his niece and proposed that Hill join him in a meeting to engage in sexual acts with her.
The discussions included explicit details about what they intended to do when they met, with Neil claiming that penetrative sex would occur.
Over the course of their online dialogue, Neil provided Hill with photographs of the supposed niece, Kayleigh, and detailed their plans for the upcoming meeting.
An initial meeting was arranged at a service station, where Neil introduced himself and showed Hill pictures of Kayleigh.
A subsequent meeting was scheduled for April 18th, with Hill expected to meet Kayleigh at 12:30 pm.
Hill parked his vehicle in a nearby car park, where he was met by Neil, who approached him.
Hill, upon seeing Neil, initially did not recognize him and greeted him with a smile.
However, the situation quickly changed when Neil produced his warrant card, revealing his identity as an undercover police officer, leading to Hill's immediate arrest.
During the arrest, authorities found condoms in Hill's pocket and alcohol in his vehicle.
It was also revealed that Neil had suggested to Hill that Kayleigh would like to consume alcohol during their meeting, further highlighting the disturbing nature of the planned encounter.
Defense attorney Guy Wyatt acknowledged Hill's full cooperation during police interviews, stating, "He made full and frank admissions at interview, which doesn’t often happen in cases such as these." Wyatt also emphasized Hill's remorse and the social isolation he was experiencing, noting that Hill was deeply troubled by his actions and the potential consequences for his family, particularly his sister's ongoing care.
At Gloucester Crown Court, Judge Timothy Mousley addressed Hill's case, emphasizing that the sentence should reflect Hill's intentions rather than his actions alone.
The judge pointed out that Hill had engaged in two months of explicit discussions with Neil about meeting Kayleigh for sexual purposes.
The court noted the presence of condoms and alcohol in Hill's possession at the time of arrest, underscoring the seriousness of his intentions.
Despite the gravity of the case, Judge Mousley acknowledged Hill's remorse and character, indicating that he had a genuine prospect for rehabilitation.
Hill was sentenced to a two-year jail term, which was suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete a sex offenders' course called Horizons, register on the sex offenders' register, and was subject to a Sex Offenders Prevention Order.
Furthermore, Hill was fined £2,500 as part of his punishment.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online grooming and the exploitation of minors, as well as the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from predatory individuals operating under the guise of anonymity on the internet.
