PETER HEPPLE FROM HUNTINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON MOTHER AND DAUGHTER IN HUNTINGTON
In a case that has shocked the local community of Huntington, Peter Hepple, a 75-year-old resident of Avon Drive, was found guilty of committing serious sexual offenses against a mother and her 14-year-old daughter. The incidents occurred during the final months of his second wife’s life, a period marked by personal turmoil and emotional distress for Hepple.According to prosecutor Nick Adington, the offenses took place when Hepple visited the victims' home under the pretense of delivering leaflets for the older woman. During this visit, he assaulted the younger victim, the 14-year-old girl, in a manner that has caused significant concern and outrage. It was also revealed that Hepple had previously lent money to the older woman and had committed a sexual assault against her as well, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.
Hepple, who pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, appeared in court to face the charges. His legal representative, Andrew Semple, argued that these offenses were uncharacteristic for Hepple and were influenced by the particular circumstances of his life at the time. Semple emphasized that Hepple was the full-time carer for his ailing wife, who was nearing the end of her life, and expressed that his client was deeply ashamed of his actions.
Despite these mitigating factors, Recorder Simon Myerson QC was clear in his judgment. He stated that, regardless of the circumstances, there is no justification for sexual assault, which he described as an extremely serious offense. The judge highlighted that such acts cause more than physical harm and shock; they leave lasting emotional scars.
As a result, Hepple was sentenced to 13 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years. The court imposed strict conditions, including mandatory participation in a sex offender treatment program and supervision by the probation service. Additionally, a sexual offences prevention order was issued, prohibiting Hepple from contacting the victims in any way and banning him from having unsupervised contact with any girl under the age of 16 for a period of five years. Furthermore, Hepple was placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the need for robust legal measures to protect vulnerable individuals from sexual predators within the community of Huntington.
