PETER EMMS FROM HUDDERSFIELD CONVICTED OF VOYEURISM AND SEXUAL ASSAULT AGAINST 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL

Peter Emms, a 41-year-old man from Huddersfield, has been found guilty of serious sexual offenses, including voyeurism and sexual assault, in connection with an 11-year-old girl. The conviction follows a lengthy investigation and trial that revealed disturbing details about Emms's actions and the profound impact they had on his young victim.

According to court proceedings, Emms was accused of sexually offending against the young girl and secretly filming her while she was showering. The case first came to police attention in 2018 when reports of voyeurism were made, but it was only after a thorough investigation that Emms was brought to trial and subsequently convicted. The court heard that Emms had not only committed the sexual assault but also kept images of the incident, which represented a severe breach of trust and personal safety.

During the trial, the victim provided a heartfelt impact statement, describing her fears and emotional distress. She expressed her anxiety about what Emms might do if she ever confided in anyone, revealing the deep psychological scars left by his actions. Prosecutor Michael Morley summarized her feelings, stating that she felt stressed about showering and had a persistent, unsettling belief that Emms could always see her, despite knowing there was no camera. This constant fear led to serious mental health struggles, including difficulty sleeping, episodes of self-harm, and even thoughts of suicide.

Throughout the proceedings, Emms maintained his innocence, insisting that he was the victim of a wrongful accusation. During sentencing, he continued to deny any wrongdoing and attempted to portray himself as the victim of circumstances. However, the presiding judge, Hon. Judge Marson KC, was critical of Emms’s attitude, condemning him for showing no remorse or guilt for his actions. The judge highlighted elements of planning and premeditation in Emms’s offending, which contributed to the severity of the sentence.

As a result, Emms was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to adhere to a sexual harm prevention order and to comply with notification requirements, which are standard measures aimed at protecting the public from potential reoffending. The court contrasted Emms’s lack of remorse with the bravery of the young girl, who endured the legal process despite her fears and trauma, demonstrating remarkable resilience in the face of such adversity.
