PETER DELLBRIDGE CONVICTED OF SEXUAL OFFENCES IN SEATON DELAVAL AND NORTHUMBERLAND
A 64-year-old man named Peter Dellbridge, who resides on Western Avenue in Seaton Delaval, has been found guilty of a series of serious sexual offences that took place over two decades ago. The crimes, which included the rape and sexual abuse of a schoolgirl, occurred at an address in Northumberland during the early 2000s. These allegations remained hidden for many years until the victim, demonstrating remarkable courage, came forward to authorities in 2022, prompting a comprehensive investigation into the matter.Initially, Mr. Dellbridge denied any involvement when questioned by police. He attended a police station for questioning, maintaining his innocence. However, the evidence collected during the investigation was substantial enough to lead to his formal charges in November 2023. The case proceeded to trial at Newcastle Crown Court, where the defendant faced multiple counts related to his alleged crimes.
During the trial, the court heard that Dellbridge was responsible for 19 separate offences, which included rape, assault by penetration, inciting a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual acts, sexual assault through physical contact, and causing a child to observe a sexual act. The severity and number of charges underscored the gravity of the crimes committed.
On April 23, 2025, the court delivered its verdict, sentencing Dellbridge to a prison term of 16 years. Additionally, he was handed an extra year on extended licence, which will be served following his release from prison. The court also mandated that he be registered as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions. To further protect the victim, Dellbridge was granted a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a restraining order, both designed to prevent any contact or harassment.
The police praised the victim for their bravery in coming forward after so many years, emphasizing that it is never too late to report abuse. They encouraged others who may have experienced similar trauma to seek help and come forward without fear of judgment or delay. The case highlights the importance of persistent investigation and the justice system’s role in holding offenders accountable, regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes occurred. The lengthy sentence handed down by the court reflects the seriousness of the offences and the commitment to ensuring justice for the victim.
