PETER DAVIES FROM STOCKTON SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR CHILD INDECENT ASSAULTS IN TEESSIDE AND CLEVELAND

In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention from the local community, Peter Davies, a resident of Stockton, was sentenced to five years in prison following his conviction for multiple indecent assaults involving young victims. The proceedings took place at Teesside Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details of Davies' crimes spanning over a decade.

During the trial, it was revealed that Davies, aged 41 at the time of sentencing, had previously served a nine-month sentence in 1996 for indecently assaulting another young girl. This earlier conviction was brought to light during the current proceedings, highlighting a disturbing pattern of behavior. The recent allegations involved two schoolgirls from the early 1990s, whom Davies denied abusing, despite the court hearing compelling evidence and testimonies from the victims.

In addition to the two schoolgirls, an older teenage girl came forward, claiming that Davies had assaulted her five years prior. Davies continued to deny these allegations, maintaining his innocence throughout the trial. Nevertheless, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of five counts of indecent assault on three different victims. Notably, he was acquitted of a charge of rape.

Following the verdict, Judge Peter Armstrong sentenced Davies to five years in prison. The judge expressed his condemnation of Davies’ actions, emphasizing the profound impact on the victims. He stated that Davies’ offending had caused significant trauma to the young girls involved. Furthermore, the judge imposed a lifelong ban on Davies working with children and ordered him to register as a sex offender.

Judge Armstrong remarked, “These offences, although they are of some age now, indicate that you had a predilection for interfering with young girls.” The court also acknowledged the bravery of the victims who provided detailed accounts despite the trauma they endured. Detective Constable Jeremy Collins from the Cleveland Police Vulnerability Unit praised the victims’ courage and expressed satisfaction with the sentence, stating, “Between 1993 and 2004, Peter Davies carried out a number of indecent assaults against children in the Cleveland and Durham Police areas. Despite the trauma of these incidents, the victims bravely gave detailed accounts at court of the abuse they suffered. After a lengthy inquiry, Davies has now been dealt with and we are pleased with his sentence. Hopefully, now the victims can move on with their lives.”

Robin Denny, representing Davies, acknowledged that his client now accepts responsibility for his actions. Denny also pointed out that Davies has not been convicted of any child sex offences since his release from prison, suggesting some level of remorse or change in behavior post-conviction.
