November 2008 Hale pervert sentenced over indecent images A 76-year-old man has been given a rehabilitation order after indecent images were found on his computer. Peter Cross, of Briony Avenue, Hale, was sentenced today, at Trafford Magistrates Court to an 18 month community rehabilitation order and a six month curfew order after he had pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images. He has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years and was also given a Foreign Travel order that prohibits him from travelling to India, Egypt, Philippines, China, Ecuador, Russia, Myanmar (Burma), Ethiopia, Cambodia, South Africa and Thailand for a six-month period. Cross is also subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prevents him from having any contact with children under the age of 16 for 10 years. Police received information in September 2007 that Cross had bought several downloads of young girls posing naked A search warrant was granted and Cross’ computer was seized and examined by GMP’s Sexual Crime Unit. A number of indecent images of children were found. The children were from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and further investigation revealed that Cross was an avid photographer who regularly visited India and other countries. Detective Constable Nicola Graham of the Trafford division’s Public Protection Investigation Unit said: “From our inquiries it was very clear that Cross traveled abroad and photographed young children and, in some cases, befriended them and brought them back to the UK to stay in his house. “The Sexual Offences Prevention Order and the Foreign Travel order were put in place to protect children from Cross, not only in the UK, but abroad as well.”
