PETER CROSS HALE PERVERT SENTENCED OVER INDECENT IMAGES IN TRAFFORD
In a case that has shocked the local community of Hale, a 76-year-old man named Peter Cross has been sentenced following the discovery of indecent images on his personal computer. The incident came to light after police investigations revealed disturbing evidence of child exploitation involving the elderly resident of Briony Avenue. In November 2008, Cross appeared before Trafford Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images. The court subsequently handed down an 18-month community rehabilitation order, coupled with a six-month curfew order, as part of his sentence. These measures are designed to monitor and rehabilitate Cross, rather than impose immediate imprisonment.
Additionally, Cross was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of five years. This registration requirement is a standard procedure aimed at ensuring ongoing monitoring of individuals convicted of sexual offenses. To further restrict his movements, the court issued a Foreign Travel order, which prohibits Cross from traveling to a list of countries including India, Egypt, the Philippines, China, Ecuador, Russia, Myanmar (Burma), Ethiopia, Cambodia, South Africa, and Thailand. This ban is set to last for six months and is intended to prevent him from engaging in activities that could involve the exploitation of children abroad.
Furthermore, Cross is subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO), which bars him from having any contact with children under the age of 16 for a decade. This order is a protective measure aimed at safeguarding minors from potential harm stemming from Cross’s actions.
The investigation into Cross’s activities began in September 2007 when authorities received information indicating that he had purchased multiple downloads depicting young girls in explicit poses. A search warrant was executed at his residence, leading to the seizure and examination of his computer by Greater Manchester Police’s Sexual Crime Unit. The analysis uncovered a number of indecent images of children from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
Further inquiries revealed that Cross was an avid photographer with a history of traveling to various countries, including India. It was found that he had visited these locations regularly, and investigators believe he used his trips to photograph children, some of whom he befriended and subsequently brought back to the UK to stay at his residence.
Detective Constable Nicola Graham, from the Trafford division’s Public Protection Investigation Unit, commented on the case: “From our inquiries, it was very clear that Cross traveled abroad and photographed young children. In some cases, he befriended them and brought them back to the UK to stay in his house. The Sexual Offences Prevention Order and the Foreign Travel order were put in place to protect children from Cross, not only in the UK but also overseas.”
