PETER COLLINS FROM REDCAR SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE AND PORNOGRAPHY IN REDCAR NEIGHBORHOOD
In March 2001, a disturbing case emerged involving Peter Collins, a computer consultant residing in the seemingly respectable suburb of Redcar. Collins was found guilty of operating a sinister 'school for sexual corruption,' a term used by the court to describe his illicit activities that involved exploiting teenage girls for the production of pornographic material.According to court proceedings, Collins transformed his own residence into a makeshift studio where he directed, produced, and starred in explicit films. These films, which included close-up shots and were titled 'HMP'—an abbreviation for 'Home Made Porn'—were part of a disturbing collection of videos that showcased his perverted activities. The court heard that Collins would invite groups of teenage boys and girls to his home to watch these films, creating an environment that fostered exploitation and abuse.
The case was brought to light after Collins's personal life became intertwined with his criminal activities. His relationship with a 16-year-old trainee computer programmer, who was also his housemate, played a significant role in the investigation. This young woman introduced Collins to other girls of similar age, and it was during this period that Collins's activities escalated. Prosecutor Peter Johnson told Teesside Crown Court that Collins would serve alcohol—vodka, wine, and beer—to the teenage girls, some as young as 14, to lower their inhibitions.
One particularly disturbing incident involved a 14-year-old girl who appeared intoxicated while being filmed naked performing a sex act with Collins. Another girl, aged 15, was shown handcuffed to a bunk bed, naked, and participating in a sexual act with a 16-year-old girl. These films were shot within Collins's lounge in his Redcar home, a location that was described as a typical, respectable suburb but was tainted by his heinous activities.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Collins had shown these videos to an audience of teenage boys and girls, including one girl who was coerced into participating. The girl was so embarrassed by the situation that she asked Collins to turn off the video, but he only responded with laughter, indicating a lack of remorse. Collins justified his actions to police by claiming that he considered the girls his sexual partners, a statement that underscored the severity of his misconduct.
Neighbors became suspicious of the gatherings at Collins's home, noticing the frequent presence of teenagers and the suspicious nature of the activities. Their concerns prompted them to alert the police, leading to Collins's arrest and subsequent trial. He faced multiple charges, including ten counts of indecent assault and unlawful sexual intercourse. The court sentenced Collins to five years in prison, and as part of his punishment, his name was entered into the Sex Offenders' Register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities post-release.
