PETER CHENERY FROM CRAWLEY SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR PAEDOPHILIC OFFENCES IN LONDON

In a significant case that highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation, Peter Chenery, a 58-year-old man from Crawley, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 15 years for a series of heinous paedophile offences. The conviction follows a comprehensive investigation into his disturbing activities, which spanned several months and involved meticulous surveillance by the Metropolitan Police's Paedophile Unit.

Chenery was found guilty of multiple serious crimes, including the indecent assault of a young girl, rape, and attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual acts. His criminal conduct also extended to sending offensive, indecent, obscene, and menacing messages, as well as creating and distributing indecent images of a child. These actions have caused profound harm to his victims and have shocked the community.

The investigation revealed that Chenery had a pattern of targeting vulnerable children, particularly within the Asian community in London. He posed as a 25-year-old individual and falsely claimed to be employed by a magazine that used 12-year-old child models. His deception was part of a calculated effort to lure young victims and satisfy his depraved fantasies. His modus operandi included making hundreds of random phone calls to Asian families, seeking to identify and exploit children who were unlikely to report his crimes due to fear or cultural barriers.

DCI Matt Sarti, who heads the Metropolitan Police’s Paedophile Unit, commented on the case, stating, “This conviction results from a surveillance operation conducted by officers from the Metropolitan Police Paedophile Unit. It took place over a number of months and was aimed at a paedophile who targeted the most vulnerable within the community. It was a complex investigation requiring ingenuity, tenacity, and patience by the officers involved.”

He further explained, “Chenery specifically sought young Asian victims who were particularly vulnerable and were unlikely to report the crime either through fear or through cultural concerns. He then subjected them to degrading and sexually abusive conversation and acts. His activity has caused significant harm to a number of children. We would like to thank those victims that had the strength to provide evidence in this case, without this he would no doubt be further victimising others.”
