Febuary 2010 Physiotherapist is jailed for molesting teenage boy A MARRIED football physiotherapist has been jailed for molesting a 16-year-old boy after getting him drunk in a hot tub. Peter Carter, 44, was sentenced to nine months in jail and will spend 10 years on the sex offenders’ register after pleading guilty to sexually touching a teenager who he had met at a mutual friend’s party. Cambridge Crown Court heard the incident, which took place at Carter’s home, in London Road, Sawston on August 2 last year, happened after he invited the adolescent round for a ‘boys’ night in’ when his wife was away. A mutual friend was supposed to join them but did not turn up. After changing they got into the hot tub in Carter’s garden where the boy drank four beers but refused the whisky he was later offered, as he was worried it would make him drunk. After talking for several hours the pair returned to the house where Carter offered the boy a massage before they went to sleep in his marital bed. Sara Walker, prosecuting, said the former council worker, who was working as an unofficial physio at a football club, touched the teenager sexually. She said the boy became very distressed although he stayed until noon the next day. The court heard Carter, who also owns a plumbing business, claimed he was so drunk and tired that he confused the youth for his wife. Judge Jonathan Haworth said: “You sexually assaulted a 16-year old-boy who looked up to you and trusted you. He saw you as a role model. “He had hopes of an apprenticeship with you as a plumber and you absolutely broke that trust. You left him asking why he should be your victim.” Carter, who admitted having a drunken homosexual fumble when he was 16 years old himself, said he has been happily married. Mr Mark Shelley, who defended Carter, claimed he had the full support of his wife and friends and cited numerous good character references. He said: “He understands that he deserves to go to jail. He bears full responsibility but he does not understand why he did it.”
