MAN TRIED TO BLAME “DRUG DEALER” FOR “ABHORRENT” IMAGES
On May 17 of the previous year, police apprehended 23-year-old Finlay Moorcroft after linking a batch of indecent images of children to his email account.During a house search in Sawston's High Street, officers recovered two damaged cell phones.
One device held 1,179 illegal images of children along with a video, with 112 images and the video being classified as category A, the most serious designation.
The other phone was too damaged for data extraction.
Moorcroft claimed that a drug dealer had taken his phone multiple times and that he believed this person uploaded the child images, although he refused to disclose the dealer's identity.
Further investigation showed that the damaged device had been close to Moorcroft’s residence at the time some images were downloaded.
Later, authorities received more information about his activities, resulting in a second arrest.
Another phone was seized, containing an additional 50 indecent images of minors.
Moorcroft admitted to making six indecent images and was sentenced to 26 months’ imprisonment at Peterborough Crown Court on June 25.
He was ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and registered as a sex offender for ten years.
