A Hull man and woman have pleaded guilty to child neglect.
Wendy Allison, 38, and Peter Booth, 39, both from west Hull, admitted to offences against several children during their court appearance at Hull Magistrates Court earlier this month.
The pair pleaded guilty to wilfully assaulting, ill-treating, neglecting, or abandoning the children in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering.
As part of their sentence, they are required to complete 20 days of rehabilitation each.
Additionally, Booth was ordered to undergo six months of treatment for alcohol dependency.
Both individuals were ordered to pay an £85 surcharge.
The article highlights the alarming statistic that nearly 2,000 children in Hull are deemed to be at risk of abuse or neglect, which is twice as high as the national average of one in every 58 children.
It also states that a total of 3,507 children were judged to be 'in need' across Hull at the end of March 2017, with investigations revealing that in almost 2,000 cases, abuse or neglect was the primary concern.
