March 2019 Man jailed after being caught twice with indecent images of children A man caught twice with indecent images of children has been jailed by Isle of Wight magistrates. Peter Baines, 62, of Lowtherville Road, Ventnor, was caught with indecent images of children on his phone, just over a week after appearing in court charged with the same offence. He was up before Island magistrates on February 12 and admitted having indecent images of children of category B and C, non-photographic cartoon or computer animated prohibited images of children, and extreme pornography involving animals. Then on February 21, officers carried out an inspection at his home and found two category C indecent images on an iPhone, prosecutor Ann Smout said. Baines appeared for sentencing today (Tuesday). For Baines, Oscar Vincent said his client did not realise the images had been on the iPhone, which he had purchased after all his devices were seized by police when he was caught the first time. When Baines had signed in to his Apple account on the new phone, apps, contacts and images from his old devices automatically synced to the new phone, including the two indecent images, Mr Vincent told the court. Baines was imprisoned for a year by magistrates — 26 weeks for the first batch of offences and a further 26 weeks for the second, which included failing to comply with requirements of a sex offenders register. Baines will appear before the court for sentencing in March.
