PAUL WARRINGTON JAILED FOR STRANGER RAPE IN NOTTINGHAM WOODS
In a case that has shocked the Nottingham community, Paul Warrington, aged 24, of Conway Crescent, Carlton, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of a brutal stranger rape.The sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court, where Warrington received an eight-year prison sentence and was also subjected to a lifetime restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim.
The incident in question occurred on the evening of Saturday, December 7, 2019, in a woodland area off Carlton Road, Thorneywood, Nottingham.
The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was attacked in a secluded part of the woods, leading to a serious sexual assault that left her traumatized and in need of medical and psychological support.
Following the assault, Nottinghamshire Police responded swiftly to a report of a serious sexual assault in the area.
Officers arrived at the scene and began an extensive investigation.
During their initial inquiries, they discovered that the woman was wearing a jacket containing a car key, which was not her own.
This detail became a crucial piece of evidence in the case.
Detectives from Nottinghamshire Police’s Public Protection Unit launched a thorough and persistent investigation.
They meticulously examined evidence from the scene and conducted interviews with witnesses and potential suspects.
The breakthrough came when forensic analysis linked the car key found with the victim to Paul Warrington.
His DNA was also recovered from the scene, matching samples taken from the area where the assault occurred.
Following this evidence, Warrington was brought in for questioning.
He subsequently pleaded guilty to the charge of rape on March 10, 2020, and was formally convicted.
