BRISTOL MAN PAUL WARFIELD SENTENCED FOR CHILD RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE IN BRISTOL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bristol, Paul Warfield, a man with known learning difficulties, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after admitting to a series of heinous sexual offenses involving a young girl. The crimes, which spanned several years, began when the victim was only five years old, and Warfield’s actions have left a lasting impact on her life.
During the proceedings at Bristol Crown Court, it was revealed that Warfield, aged 35 and residing at Willow House on Bishport Avenue, pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual assault, two charges of inciting a female under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, and four counts of rape.
The court heard that the abuse was both persistent and systematic, occurring over a lengthy period during which the victim was unable to fully comprehend the gravity of the situation.
It was only when the girl received sex education at school that she recognized the inappropriate nature of Warfield’s conduct and decided to report the abuse to her teachers.
This crucial step led to the investigation and subsequent arrest of Warfield.
Prosecutor Ian Fenny described the abuse as involving both improper touching and rape, highlighting the severity of the offenses committed.
Judge Peter Blair QC, the Recorder of Bristol, addressed Warfield directly, stating, “This behaviour was persistent, over a very long time.
I have no doubt whatsoever you knew what you were doing was wrong.
You must be properly punished.” The judge emphasized that Warfield’s actions demonstrated a clear understanding of their wrongfulness, despite his learning difficulties.
Following his conviction, Warfield was ordered to serve his sentence initially in a secure hospital environment, where he will receive specialized care tailored to his needs.
Should he be deemed fit for release after treatment, he will then serve the remainder of his sentence in prison.
Additionally, Warfield was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that prohibits him from having unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16 for the next 15 years.
He was also mandated to register as a sex offender indefinitely and is barred from working with children in any capacity.
Prosecutor Ian Fenny confirmed that the abuse involved both inappropriate touching and rape, underscoring the gravity of Warfield’s crimes.
It was noted that from an early stage of the investigation, it appeared unlikely that the case would proceed to trial, given the evidence and circumstances surrounding the offenses.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and safeguarding measures to protect vulnerable children from predatory individuals in the community of Bristol.
