BOOTLE MAN ABUSES ELDERLY GENTLEMAN WHO ALLOWED HIM TO MAKE SMALL PURCHASES ON HIS BANK CARD
A homeless man and a woman abused the trust of an elderly pensioner who offered them a place to stay by spending thousands of pounds of his money at Aldi and convenience stores.
Paul Warburton had been allowed to use his victim's bank card for small purchases such as cigarettes and alcohol, but instead racked up a bill of more than £5,000 during a three-week spending spree.
The 35-year-old admitted fraud by false representation and, appearing via video link to HMP Altcourse, was handed eight months behind bars, to run consecutively to a 51-month sentence for robbery which he is currently serving.
Co-defendant Karen Newton pleaded guilty to the same offence but a warrant for her arrest was issued after she failed to attend court Warburton also created a web of fake social media accounts to stalk an ex-partner, leading to his imprisonment for two years and nine months and a 10-year restraining order.
