PAUL TROTTER FROM PONTEFRACT JAILED FOR ABUSING BOYS ON SOUTHAMPTON-BASED CRUISE SHIPS

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the maritime and local communities, Paul Trotter, a 34-year-old man from Pontefract, West Yorkshire, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a series of heinous crimes committed aboard luxury cruise ships operated by Cunard. The crimes involved the sexual abuse of thirteen young boys who were under his supervision and care during their voyages.

According to court records and official statements, Trotter, who worked in the play zones of the cruise liners, used his position to exploit vulnerable children. He recorded himself engaging in sexual acts with the boys, some of whom were under the age of 13 at the time of the assaults. These recordings were made on three different ships, including the renowned Queen Mary 2 and its sister vessel, Queen Elizabeth. The abuse took place over a span of several years, from November 2007 until his arrest in August 2011.

In addition to the physical abuse, Trotter possessed numerous indecent images of children, which he had obtained through online sources. His actions were uncovered after a thorough investigation by Wiltshire Police’s child abuse unit, leading to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings. During the hearing at Swindon Crown Court, Trotter pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including 12 counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, one count of sexual activity with a child under 13, five counts of making indecent images of a child, five counts of taking indecent images, and one count of possessing indecent images.

Judge Douglas Field, presiding over the case, ordered Trotter to be held in custody until his sentencing hearing scheduled for May 11. The judge also mandated that Trotter register as a sex offender before returning to prison. At the court appearance, Trotter was dressed in a suit and purple tie, appearing subdued but facing the serious consequences of his actions.

The case has garnered a strong response from Cunard, the cruise line company, which expressed its profound shock and disappointment. In a statement, Cunard’s president and managing director, Peter Shanks, stated, “We were first made aware of these serious allegations eight months ago by Wiltshire Police and were deeply shocked by what we were told. Since then, Cunard has provided full support and cooperation to the criminal investigation, and where possible within the constraints of the legal system, to the families involved. Our own feelings of shock are secondary to those of the families directly impacted.”
