A man who pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual assault and four counts of forcing a woman to participate in sexual acts, involving two victims, has received a prison sentence exceeding five years.
Paul Sydney Simpson, 66, who has no fixed residence, was sentenced to a total of six years in prison after admitting to charges related to incidents in East Dorset dating back to March 2020.
Court proceedings revealed that the assaults took place between March 2020 and January of this year.
The criminal acts included forcing a woman to perform sexual acts in his car and touching her vagina and breasts.
Simpson’s misconduct was brought to light after one of the victims gathered the courage to disclose the abuse to her boyfriend.
The defense argued that Simpson regrets his actions and is sincerely remorseful; he confessed to his guilt when police apprehended him.
The judge ordered consecutive sentences of three years each for the two victims.
Additionally, Simpson was issued a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victims and was mandated to register as a sex offender for life.
Detective Constable Tom Bancroft, who led the investigation, commended the victims for their bravery and expressed hope that their courage might encourage others to report similar incidents.
