PAUL SPELMAN FROM ISLEWORTH AND KINGSTON JAILED FOR PERVERTED BEHAVIOR AT LOCAL LEISURE CENTRES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Isleworth and Kingston, Paul Spelman, a 42-year-old registered sex offender, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being caught engaging in inappropriate and voyeuristic behavior at a Kingston leisure centre. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 14 of the previous year, at the Kingfisher leisure centre located on Fairfield Road in Kingston.

According to reports, the father of a 12-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, noticed something suspicious while his son was changing in a cubicle. The father observed Paul Spelman, who was dressed in swimming trunks, peering over the wall of his son’s cubicle. Recognizing the potential danger, the father immediately warned his son, alerting him to the fact that someone was watching him. The father then took action by alerting staff and ensuring his son's safety.

Spelman, who was seen fleeing the scene after being confronted, had been lurking around the changing area, moving from one cubicle to another. It was reported that he had been deliberately positioning himself near the lockers where children were changing, seemingly with the intent to observe them. The father expressed relief that his son remained unaware of Spelman's actions, but the incident raised serious concerns about the safety of children at the facility.

Kingston Crown Court was informed that Spelman has a long history of similar offenses, with convictions dating back to 1987. One particularly alarming incident from September 2009 was highlighted during the trial. In that case, Spelman was observed driving alongside a coach carrying children on the M25 motorway. Shockingly, he removed his clothes while still at the wheel and began masturbating in front of the children on the coach, an act that demonstrated a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.

Spelman, residing on Eversley Crescent in Isleworth, pleaded guilty to two counts of voyeurism and was found guilty of two breaches of a sexual offences prevention order during a hearing on Thursday, March 3. His sentencing took place on Wednesday, April 13, where he was handed a three-year prison term. The court also imposed strict conditions, including a ban on Spelman being seen in public wearing underwear, to prevent further incidents.

Judge Fergus Mitchell delivered a stern judgment, stating, “You can’t control yourself and rather than controlling yourself you clearly planned these visits to this swimming pool.” The judge emphasized the danger posed by Spelman’s persistent behavior, noting that he had shown a clear pattern of seeking out environments where children are vulnerable. A sexual offences prevention order was issued at an earlier hearing, prohibiting Spelman from entering changing rooms, beaches where children are changing, or being alone in vehicles not directly traceable to him.

Judge Mitchell concluded by highlighting Spelman's relentless desire to be near children and his disturbing tendency to expose himself or be close to where children are naked or vulnerable, underscoring the seriousness of his actions and the need for strict legal measures to protect the community.
